"Books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone." -- Roald Dahl

If you are looking for books about the real world, the world you live in and have to figure out, then you are looking for realistic fiction. Some of these books are about people like you, and some are about people very different from you, but they are all about people whose experiences are true to life. You won’t find magic or dragons or dystopic games on this list. Just books about the world, as it is.

Do you love to solve the puzzle, catch the thief, nab the murderer, uncover the plot? We have tons of great mysteries in the library, from funny to horrifying to everything in between. Some are fiction, and some are real life mysteries. Here is a list of just a few that you might enjoy.

LGBTQ characters are no longer relegated to the margins of fiction -- they are the stars of many wonderful novels, with their own stories and challenges and joys. The library has lots of fiction books featuring LGBTQ characters, and we also have nonfiction books about people who identify as lesbian or gay or bi or trans -- or who aren’t even sure! This list contains just a few. Come by the library and see what we have!

The library has tons of fiction and nonfiction books about athletes and sports -- from soccer to MMA to basketball to football. Check out this list of just some of the library books about sports.

Do you love to see the world through the eyes of animals? We have many excellent fiction books that imagine what it is like to be a dog or cat or even a bat! Here is a list of some of our books from an animal's point of view.

We need diverse books! Everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in a book, and that means we need books with people of different races, genders, nationalities, religions, orientations, abilities, and family blends. Publishing companies tend to favor books with white, straight, Christian characters from Western cultures. There is nothing wrong with these characters, of course. But the world is filled with all kinds of people, so shouldn’t our books be, too? This is just a sampling of books that feature non traditional characters.

"Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light."
